Perhaps you wish to freshen your smile, look healthier and younger, or boost your self-confidence? Maybe an accident has caused a loss of your teeth? Could it be that you are dealing with loose, uncomfortable dentures, or failed bridgework? Possibly years of dental problems, worn teeth or failed restorations have made speaking and eating more difficult affecting the quality of your life?

Regardless of your need for cosmetic or functional improvement, Drs. Naylor and Illes can restore the look and feel of your teeth. Their approach balances the importance of function and comfort with esthetic appeal. Whenever possible the doctors recommend early treatment to avoid more invasive procedures down the road. Drs. Naylor and Illes pride themselves in practicing a conservative approach, always considering that which is in their patient's long-term best interest.

Initial Consultation / Oral Health Exams
Are you in need of a dentist and looking to find someone you trust to examine your mouth?

As a new patient of Drs. Naylor and Illes you can expect a thorough examination and a precise assessment of your oral health. Depending on the situation, Drs. Naylor and Illes can provide you with a complete oral health examination, or a more specific assessment of a certain problem. Patients who desire an overall analysis are encouraged to bring their recent x-rays and dental records. Alternatively, x-rays can be taken as part of the initial oral health exam.

Drs. Naylor and Illes will discuss your needs, answer your questions, advise you of options and make recommendations for treatment. Intra-oral cameras, computer imaging, digital photography and surgical telescopes are available when indicated for in-depth analysis and better results.

As a result of the complex nature of some dental conditions, a complimentary second appointment is most often needed to discuss treatment options in detail. Consultations take place in a private setting using a digital projector in combination with a 100 inch screen. Demonstration models and mechanical simulators of your jaw are often incorporated in the consultation to assist in your education and the discussion of complex treatment plans as well as cosmetic makeovers.

Drs. Naylor and Illes treat patients who are referred to them for specific problems from other dentists but also welcome new patients who do not have a dentist and wish to join their practice. To schedule a visit, simply call 604-734-4646, or click here for an on-line appointment request form.

Maintenance & Follow-up Care
Drs. Naylor and Illes will continue their care following completion of your dental treatment. For all extensive dental treatments performed, the doctors will appoint you for follow-up reassessments. Drs. Naylor and Illes will monitor your teeth so that you can be certain that all measures have been taken to ensure the long-term success of your dental treatment.

Drs. Naylor and Illes have an adult, restorative dental practice and provide their patients with full hygiene services. If you do not have a dentist and wish to become a regular patient, you will be scheduled for routine cleanings and check-up exams. Drs. Naylor and Illes work alongside a fulltime professional hygienist whom has been servicing their regular patients for over seven years. Drs. Naylor and Illes' hygienist has a reputation for having a gentle touch and possesses the experience necessary to perform even the most difficult cleanings. In many situations, the dental cleanings performed at Drs. Naylor and Illes are preformed using ultrasonic instruments. This advanced form of dental cleaning technology features a cleaning wand that imparts a special vibration action to your teeth much akin to battery powered toothbrushes. Ultrasonic cleaners can effectively remove heavy mineral deposits reducing the need for traditional manual hand scaling. Dental cleanings will indisputably enhance the health of your teeth and gums. You will be certain to enjoy the nurturing care of Drs. Naylor and Illes's professional cleanings knowing that your mouth and breath are as fresh as can be.

Cosmetic Dentistry
Are you longing to regain the smile you once displayed? Do you feel that your smile in need of rejuvenation? Are you interested in changing your smile to give you a more youthful look?

A beautiful smile undoubtedly makes you look healthier and younger, no matter your age. Drs. Naylor and Illes work with a team of specialists and Master Laboratory Ceramists uniquely skilled in cosmetic dentistry to analyze, design and deliver outstanding esthetic results. The doctor's years of study in dental cosmetics have helped them to master skills as dental artists. Drs. Naylor and Illes use mercury-free fillings which appear nearly invisible, and employ the most current technology to whiten teeth. They can correct chips and flaws with composite bonding, or beautify a smile with porcelain veneers.

For extensive cosmetic treatment, Drs. Naylor and Illes begin by scheduling time to listen to your vision. Afterwards, they will assist you in selecting your new smile from their extensive "Smile Catalogue" library. The doctors will then arrange to have your new set of teeth fabricated from wax in a process known as a 'wax-up'. You will be able to assess your new wax smile on a model made from an impression of your teeth before any work is carried out. Changes can be made in the wax-up and later reassessed by you to ensure your satisfaction. A set of temporary, plastic teeth will be fabricated, mimicking your approved wax-up. The plastic temporary teeth can be worn for an extended period of time to allow you ample opportunity to properly assess your new smile. You can be assured that using this contemporary approach to 'smile makeovers' you will not be in the traditional, awkward position of being asked to approve your smile while holding a hand mirror and seated in the dental chair with only seconds to minutes to make a lifelong decision. Once final changes have been made to your temporaries, and approved by you, a set of permanent teeth will be fabricated using a process which precisely duplicates the size, shape, position and arrangement of your temporary teeth. The end result is a beautiful smile that you designed and approved based on your desires.

Drs. Naylor and Illes's non-traditional approach to cosmetic smile enhancement relinquishes control to you throughout the entire process. You will be afforded the opportunity to 'test drive' your new teeth before you commit to receiving them. Drs. Naylor and Illes will use their knowledge, skill, artistic ability and vast experience to transform your visions into reality and give you the smile you have always dreamed about.

Whitening

Are you displeased with the colour of your teeth? Have you tried various whitening toothpastes, rinses and bleaching kits from your local pharmacy with poor results?

Teeth tend to discolour with age. This can occur as a result of natural changes within the tooth and also from staining caused by the normal consumption of food and beverages. Coffee and red wine are particularly notorious for staining teeth over time. It is no secret that yellow teeth can make a person appear much older. Tooth whitening has the reverse effect and can rapidly provide a person with a considerably more youthful look. A very safe and effective method of dental whitening involves the use of thin, unobtrusive, plastic trays to hold a professional strength lightening gel against the teeth. This can be performed overnight but is now often done for about a thirty to sixty minutes per day for as little as one to two weeks. In most instances the whitening results are quite dramatic.

Drs. Naylor and Illes have advanced training and decades of experience in whitening teeth. The doctors have used a wide range of whitening products including 'In-Office' power bleaches and 'Light-Assisted' power bleaches such as the popular ZOOM whitening system. Drs. Naylor and Illes keep abreast of the latest tooth whitening systems and techniques through their continuing education. You can feel confident that the doctors will provide you with the fastest, most effective, least costly and safest whitening system available to brighten your teeth.

Tooth-Coloured Fillings, Inlays and Onlays

Are you unhappy with the appearance of your silver fillings? Do some of your silver fillings appear to make your teeth look grey? Are you concerned about the reported potential ill health affects of the mercury in silver fillings?

Old silver or amalgam fillings tend to darken over time and can develop cracks or gaps. If replacement is necessary, many patients are now choosing a tooth-colored material to blend nearly invisibly with their natural teeth for a brighter, cleaner looking smile. Depending on the situation, composite or porcelain fillings, inlays or onlays can be incredibly durable and amazingly beautiful, offering the best of both worlds.

Drs. Naylor and Illes are highly educated in the area of esthetic fillings. The doctors have the advanced training and experience necessary to safely and competently replace your old silver fillings. Drs. Naylor and Illes have successfully placed, or replaced, many hundreds of composite or porcelain fillings, inlays and onlays for their patients. You can depend on them to provide you with results that look great and last for years.

Composite Bonding and Fillings

Do you have old, silver fillings that you wish to replace for cosmetic reasons or health concerns? Are you looking for a conservative, more economical cosmetic alternative to porcelain veneers to rejuvenate your smile and restore your worn, chipped or discoloured teeth?

Composite resin can be bonded directly to teeth to correct a variety of problems with minimal to no tooth preparation. 'White fillings', or composite resin restorations, can be used in many instances to replace silver fillings and routinely to fix small cavities before they become large. Composite bonding can also enhance a smile by correcting fractured, rotated, stained, or worn teeth and can be used to close spaces between teeth. The use of composite to restore teeth is very technically demanding as it requires a deep understanding of materials and technique. The most beautiful composite bonding results from layering different resin materials of varying opacities and translucencies. This procedure is much akin to a dental ceramist baking a porcelain crown. The ceramist must incrementally layer and bake various types of porcelain powders to create an artificial tooth which mimics nature. Traditional, basic, composite bonding employs one or two resin materials to achieve a reasonably good cosmetic result but is often relatively easily detected upon inspection. In contrast, advanced composite bonding may require five to seven different composite resin materials, tints and opaquers to achieve an outstanding result that can defy even the most astute observer's eye and rival that which is achieved using the more costly, and time consuming, porcelain veneer method of bonding.

Drs. Naylor and Illes have been educated by many of the world's finest restorative dentists who are renown for their exceptional composite bonding talent. Years of experience and advanced training in this particular niche of cosmetic dentistry has provided Drs. Naylor and Illes with the skills necessary to provide you with porcelain-esque composite bonding that is quite often considered to be the pinnacle of dental art.

Porcelain Veneers

Are you looking to enhance your smile but are hesitant because of the thought of needing to have your teeth 'shaven down'? Has tooth whitening not provided you with the type of 'white smile' you hoped it would produce? Are you looking for a conservative way to enhance your appearance, increase your confidence and take a few years off your life?

Porcelain veneers are thin, shells of porcelain bonded to the front surface of teeth. They are widely considered to be the ultimate in cosmetic dentistry. Porcelain veneers are wonderful because they can dramatically improve the position, size, colour, and shape of teeth while maintaining the natural translucency and vitality characteristic of teeth. In contrast to crowns, porcelain veneers do not require the removal of a substantial amount of tooth structure. Porcelain veneers are fabricated in a dental laboratory and can provide a permanent esthetic solution in as little as two appointments in just two weeks.

Drs. Naylor and Illes work closely with Master Laboratory Technicians whom they consider to be experts in the field of cosmetic dentistry. The doctors have amassed over a half-century of combined experience and advanced training in porcelain veneer treatment. They have placed hundreds of porcelain veneers during this time and regularly treat, through referral, the most esthetically challenging and demanding patients because of their reputation for clinical excellence. Drs. Naylor and Illes can assist you in transforming your smile into the smile you have envisioned for yourself in your dreams.

Crowns

Are your unhappy with your smile? Do you have crowns that appear opaque and unnatural? Are you displeased with how poorly your crowns blend in with your natural teeth? Do your crowns that have unsightly black lines at your gums?

Crowns are restorations fabricated by a dental laboratory that can be used to restore a fractured or worn tooth, treat a tooth which has been affected by dental caries or protect a tooth which has received root canal therapy. Traditional crowns are made of gold. Porcelain fused to metal (PFM) crowns were later introduced in the 1960's. PFM crowns are fabricated through a process whereby porcelain is baked onto the surface of a gold based shell. The original PFM crowns were designed with an exposed metal collar which was often hidden under the gum tissue. If a person's gums were to recede next to one of these crowns the metal would show as a black line creating an esthetic problem. PFM crowns have an excellent track record, however, laboratory ceramists routinely struggle with making these crowns look natural due to the challenge of opaquing the metal without altering the translucency required to create a sense of vitality. Recent advancements in dental technology has provided a solution to this particular problem with the development of an all-ceramic, or metal free, crown option. The first all-ceramic crown was released to the market in 1989 with its use limited to the front of the mouth due to concerns with strength. Improvements in all-ceramic crown design and manufacture, combined with stronger materials, now permit for the use of these crowns in all areas of the mouth with great success.

Drs. Naylor and Illes work with Master Laboratory Ceramists to ensure that your crowns will appear vital, natural and virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth.

Bridges

Are you displeased with the appearance of your partial denture? Would you like a permanent solution for the replacement of your missing teeth but not interested in dental implants?

A bridge is a permanently cemented dental prosthesis which is used to replace one or more missing teeth. Bridges fill in gaps which can impair a person's ability to chew and they can greatly enhance the beauty of a smile. A bridge can be successfully used in a situation to replace one or more teeth provided that the anchor teeth which support the bridge are in exceptional health. Although dental implants have largely succeeded bridges as the gold standard for replacing a missing tooth due to their improved success rate, a bridge may still be an excellent choice and they may serve an even greater purpose. Strengthening of the anchor teeth which support a bridge, if structurally weak, is one such additional benefit. Bridges are also frequently used to replace a missing tooth when insufficient bone exists for a dental implant and bone grafting is not desired.

Gold and porcelain baked onto metal have long been the only bridge styles available. However, recent advancements in dental materials have provided the latest option for non-metal porcelain bridges. These all-porcelain bridges are used in challenging situations for those whom demand the highest level of esthetics and for those who wish to have a 'metal-free' mouth for personal health concerns.

The beauty and longevity of a bridge is completely dependent on the treatment planning, skills and craftsmanship of the dentist, along with an in-depth understanding of the appropriate techniques and materials. Drawing on their extensive advanced training and experience in bridge treatment, Drs. Naylor and Illes work closely with a team of Master Laboratory Technicians to insure that you will receive nothing less than the highest quality results.

Implants

Do you have a partial denture which you are displeased with because of a poor fit, the appearance of metal clips on your teeth or the feel of a lot of metal and plastic in your mouth? Perhaps you have missing teeth and wish you could just start over?

Dental implants give you the opportunity to once again have your own teeth. Fabricated from a medical grade titanium alloy, dental implants resemble small screws and act as tooth roots to replace your missing teeth. Implants can be used to anchor custom-fit dentures and bridges to provide unsurpassed stability and comfort. Dental implants are surgically embedded into your jaw bone during a minimally invasive dental surgery. This surgery has a very high success rate and is most often performed using local anesthetic alone. The vast majority of patients whom have had implant surgery report a high level of comfort during and after their surgical procedures. Following a short period of healing, dental implants are restored in a manner similar to the restoration of natural teeth. Dental implants have been used to successfully replace missing teeth since the 1960's. Today there are patients who have been wearing implant supported teeth for nearly 40 years.

Drs. Naylor and Illes have advanced implant training and nearly four decades of combined experience in the planning and restoration of various types of dental implants. The doctors provide all forms of implant treatment ranging from single crowns and bridges to full dentures. Drs. Naylor and Illes work closely with a team of seasoned periodontists and oral surgeons using contemporary techniques and materials to successfully replace your missing teeth, jaw bone and gum tissue. They quarterback their implant team in establishing your treatment plan, guiding your surgery and restoring your implants. You can depend on Drs. Naylor and Illes to oversee all aspects of your implant care and provide you with results that you expect.

Dentures & Partial Dentures

Do your dentures irritate your mouth? Are you afraid of your dentures falling out when you speak? Do you dislike the appearance of your denture teeth and your smile?

"Discount" dentures are known to often cause chronic irritation, mouth sores, impaired eating and speech. Drs. Naylor and Illes are experienced in full and partial denture design and fabrication. The doctors utilize advanced techniques to prevent the common problems associated with traditional denture fabrication.

Traditional complete denture technique requires that you approve the appearance, fit and bite of your new teeth without having an opportunity to try your dentures for any length of time. This system often results in patient dissatisfaction.

Drs. Naylor and Illes will often construct a set of temporary 'trial' dentures. Trial dentures allow you to properly assess your new teeth by allowing you to wear your dentures for eating and speaking for an extended period of time. They also provide you with the opportunity to make changes to your dentures. The trial dentures are then used as a guide in the fabrication of your permanent set of dentures. This controlled process helps to ensure your satisfaction.

Drs. Naylor and Illes can make your next set of dentures look and feel as your own teeth once did utilizing advanced complete denture techniques. You can expect your new dentures not to click when talking, loosen when eating or drop when speaking. Drs. Naylor and Illes's dentures are made to be worn and not stored in a drawer.

Implant Dentures

Are you a complete denture wearer whom suffers from loose or poor fitting dentures? Do your dentures click when you speak? Are you able to use your dentures to eat foods like steak, apples and corn on the cob? Do you worry about your dentures dropping in the middle of a conversation?

Dental implants offer a solution to denture wearers facing these types of problems. Implant dentures provide a wide array of benefits over traditional dentures because dental implants support, stabilize and retain dentures reducing or eliminating the most common denture complaints.

A denture can be connected to dental implants by two types of specialized systems. Screws can be used to secure a denture directly to dental implants. This type of denture is known as a 'hybrid' or 'fixed-removeable' denture and can only be removed by a dentist. Alternatively, a custom metal bar screwed to the implants can be used to support a denture through the use of devices known as attachments. Attachments are built into both the bar and denture to allow a strong connection. This type of denture is known as an 'overdenture' and can be removed at home.

Drs. Naylor and Illes have the advanced dental implant education and experience necessary to guide you through the myriad of implant denture options. The doctors will design and personalize your plan to accommodate your desires, needs and budget. Drs. Naylor and Illes can help give you the quality of life you want and deserve.
