Professional Background
A graduate of the reputed Misch International Implant Institute in Beverly Hills, Michigan, Dr. Illes has received advanced training in implant dentistry by Dr. Carl Misch. Dr. Misch is universally regarded as a pioneer in the
field of dental implants and arguably its leading authority. Subsequently, Dr.Illes became a Fellow of the
International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI). The ICOI represents the largest dental implant
organization in the world. Currently, he is working on obtaining his Mastership in the ICOI and an Associate
Fellowship in the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID). The AAID is the oldest and one of the
most respected professional organizations committed to the advancement of implant dentistry.
Credentialization is a process, open to all dentists, which assesses a dentist’s clinical skills and knowledge by challenging them with written exams, oral exams and specific clinical procedural requirements. These guidelines are set forth by the world’s leading authorities in the particular field in which a dentist is pursuing credentialization. The ICOI and the AAID are the only two dental implant organizations which offer a dentist an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge, skill and experience and become credentialized.
Dr. Illes has recently received a Fellowship from the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD). He was the sole recipient of this prestigious award from B.C., and only one of six in Canada, to have received this honour in 2010. The AGD is one of the largest dental organizations in North America. The organization provides this award to dentists who have achieved a minimum of 500 hours of documented, AGD approved, continuing dental education and have successfully passed a challenging written exam. The exam serves to test a dentist's knowledge of each discipline within dentistry. Dr. Illes is currently working on achieving his Mastership credentialization in the AGD. A Mastership requires a dentist to have an additional 600 hours of AGD approved, continuing dental education divided amongst eighteen areas of dentistry with requirements for participation or ‘hands-on’ education.
As a designated Sustaining member, Dr. Illes is also in the process of pursuing a Fellowship through credentialization in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). A Sustaining designation is assigned to a dentist active in the process of accreditation whom has successfully completed a written exam, testing one's knowledge of cosmetic dentistry, and has fulfilled the additional educational requirements. The AACD is the largest international cosmetic dental organization. It bestows accredited status to those who have successfully passed a series of rigorous clinical procedural requirements and an oral examination testing their knowledge of cosmetic dentistry. This credentialization process is the only one of its kind in cosmetic dentistry and the AACD has less than three hundred accredited members worldwide.
Dr. Illes has a post graduate education in advanced rehabilitative and reconstructive dentistry through a wide variety of continuing education programs. Amongst these many programs include training at the globally recognized Pankey Institute in Key Biscayne, Florida and Kois Center in Seattle, Washington. Dr. John Kois’ mission statement is to “enable motivated dentists to achieve extraordinary levels, expanding both knowledge and application skills in restorative dentistry”. The Pankey Institute and Kois Center are widely heralded as two of the most elite training facilities in restorative and prosthodontic dentistry in the world. Dr. Illes is currently working on completion of the Kois program.
In the spring of 2010, Dr. Illes was accepted on staff at the University of British Columbia Faculty of Dentistry. He is currently serving as a part-time clinical instructor for dental students at the university.
With a passion for excellence coupled with a strong portfolio of continuing education and more than a decade of experience in private practice, Dr. Illes has been able to provide predictable solutions for his patients’ complicated dental problems.
